Virtual Learning Community and the NCLOR
 |
In 2008, it was decided that all new VLC courses under development or review in that year's cycle should be integrated with the NCLOR. This means that in order for faculty to use the Virtual Learning Community (VLC) courses and learning materials within those courses, the colleges must install a |
| Blackboard or Moodle plug-ins that connects the college's server with the North Carolina Learning Object Repository (NCLOR). Important learning activities, self-assessments, and instructional materials are contained in these "learning objects" within the VLC courses. In addition to VLC courses, faculty may use "learning objects" from the NCLOR in any of their online, hybrid, or even face-to-face courses. |
Blackboard NCLOR Integration Building Block Information:
 |
NCLOR provides a Blackboard building block that allows Blackboard users to search for content in the NCLOR and then easily link it back to a course. This building block can be installed by the Blackboard Administrator. However, access to the NCLOR is granted through the building block to the NCLOR by means of a "shared secret" that must be set up by the NCLOR staff in order for the connection to be |
| allowed. Think of the shared secret as the Blackboard server's generic username and password to let all its users have access to the NCLOR. |
Moodle NCLOR Integration Module Information:
 |
NCLOR also provides a Moodle module that allows Moodle users to search for content and link it back to a Moodle course. This module functions very similar to the Blackboard building block but with one main difference. The Moodle NCLOR module must be installed on the "back end" by the Moodle Server Admin and can not be installed through the applications admin graphic user interface (GUI). |
To get the NCLOR module installed on your Moodle instance...
- Remote-Learner.net hosted institutions should open a helpdesk ticket and request the Equella or NCLOR module be installed on their servers. Remote-Learner already has the module therefore the turn-around time for the ticket should be fairly quick.
- Self hosted Moodle institutions can download the zip file below and follow the directions in the instructions.txt file located in the zip file.
- Other third party hosting institutions should follow the standard procedures for installing modules such opening a helpdesk ticket...ect.
After the module as been installed on your Moodle server, you can follow the Moodle 1.9.x Module Configuration Instructions below. |
